Closing line value (CLV) is the single most honest leading indicator that a betting process is sharp - you cannot fake beating the close over a real sample. Enter your bet price and the closing price below.
What is CLV, and why does it matter?
Closing line value compares the price you got when you placed a bet against the market's final, closing price right before the game starts. The closing line is the sharpest number the market ever produces - it has absorbed every bet, every sharp adjustment, and every piece of public information available. Beating it consistently means you are getting a better number than the market's own best final estimate, which is the strongest evidence a pick process is actually finding real value rather than getting lucky.
Win/loss record over a small sample is mostly variance - a coinflip bettor can go on a heater or a cold streak either way. CLV is different: it is graded against the closing number, not the game's outcome, so it is not affected by whether the specific bet happened to win or lose. That is why sharp, professional bettors track CLV as their primary process metric, often ahead of raw win rate.
One bet means nothing. A single positive or negative CLV reading is just one data point - it takes a real sample (tens of bets, ideally more) before a CLV trend is meaningful. Do not judge a single bet, or even a single day, on this number alone.
TrueTail tracks this automatically for every bet you log - no calculator required.
